Rapid development in Allen requires the Park Planning and Capital Projects Division to keep pace with the population's demand for passive and active recreational facilities. The division is responsible for the planning, design and construction management of parks, trails and open space in Allen through the Capital Improvement Projects Plan. Funding through the Allen Community Development Corporation, the Collin County Parks and Open Space program, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and other federal, state and foundation funding sources are actively pursued for the enhancement of public facilities and programming. Check out the Allen Parks and Recreation Master Plan to find out more.
Current capital improvement projects are located throughout Allen. The following are a few of the projects:
Green ParkA uniquely-themed playground will soon replace aging swings and slides at Green Park. The playground, located near the intersection of Alma Drive and Comanche Drive, with a first-responder theme is nearly complete. Other site improvements to the park will begin in October 2018.

Program elements include preservation of the existing historic features, including Allen’s 1873 Old Stone Dam and water tower foundations, interpretative trails and signage, overlooks, enhanced trail access, trail head improvements off of Cedar Drive and minor landscape improvements.
Reed Park East

A $352,000 renovation will resurface a tennis court, replace a fence, add a shade structure and picnic tables, and improve the trail along Allen Heights Drive. Contractors will begin construction in September 2017 with completion expected in Spring 2018.
